I admire the resilience of Nate, taking advantage of the summer break to learn self-defense.
Lunch in their home in Cavite. Nissa is becoming a good cook.
At their recognition day yesterday. Nissa said he felt a little disappointed that he  was in number two slot. Being grade V was a little more difficult for all of them.

His two ninangs (godparents) visited their place in Cavite yesterday.

Look at those long legs…haha! Maybe in the four months that I haven’t seen him, he is taller now than I am.

I posted an excerpt of my previous blog culled from a Weekly Photo Challenge of WordPress years ago. It was accompanied by lichens growing on our dead avocado tree. Here goes:

“That moment you let your hands click the shutter because your eyes saw something that delights your senses – a couple of lichens growing, showing life amidst decay, turning hope into joy.  That moment that your hands itch to touch the soil and dig, plant a seed or two  and let them grow. It evokes memories and you smile at the thought because you found a treasure. Afterall, they say, beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder”.

Nissa  bought Nate a new cellphone as a reward for his academic achievements. I was surprised when I received a message from him last night, the longest one he wrote me so far. We just usually message each other with simple ‘hi’, ‘hello’ and ‘how are you’.

He quoted me in its entirety with the photo and he said:

Nonna  you could make a living out of being a writer. You can write pretty well, and it seems like a very suitable job for you.”

Such joy reading it from my eleven-year-old grandson. And such confidence in me. So sweet of him. I told him he could visit my blog and read some posts. A few years ago when he started school, I showed  my blog about him which I started when he was born.  He smiled and looked at the several photos posted there. I seldom update it now except to share photos of him growing up.

It was a long weekend with Nissa and Obet on leave from work and Nate on school break. They stayed in Cavite, dropped by Tagaytay then on to Batangas where they went swimming. I love Nate’s video which I posted earlier on my other blog. What a brave young man. I am resposting it here along with other photos of their outing.

Nate and Obet had a photo like this at the beach when Nate was two. The two of them even went kayaking.
Brave big boy.

Nissa sent me a few pics while Nate is with her in the office. Nobody could take care of him at home since Obet’s mom is in Baguio. School year is over. Tomorrow is Recognition Day in their school. They’ll go back to their own home after the event.

Nissa says he is bored doing nothing. He should have brought some books aside from his tab.
Practicing Nate?

I am saving photos of Nate here during their first communion last Friday. He is growing so tall for his age.

He is only nine years old but he looks like a grown-up.
With his dad and mom.
He was one of the readers during the mass. CONGRATULATIONS NATE🙂 So proud of you.

They came here yesterday to celebrate New Year with us.

After lunch, Nate said, “can we go out at the garden Nonna?”

I asked him why and he added, “I want to pick kalamansi”. That’s Philippine lime.

I told him they are still so small so I showed our two jackfruits.

Can we play instead?” . Then he began making faces and his signature sign which is thumbs up. He has grown so tall and a little more chubby since the last time they stayed here March last year. I took some photos of course..

It is always a thrill having Nate around. When will we see each other again?

So this was Nate’s birthday gift to Nissa, an art project which he did yesterday. I love it.

We could create an artist yet in him.

I took a lot of pictures of Nate when he and Obet were here last March while Nissa was in the hospital.

Time flies….really so fast!

Amidst this deadly pandemic, we  still strive to  have a normal life and one of it is enrolling our precious boy in second grade. They started their online class yesterday and Nissa told me it was a hard change from the face-to-face interaction done in school. All modules were uploaded online but a kid of seven would hardly know what to do without a mother’s supervision even if he can easily navigate his tab. Nissa bought him one a few weeks ago purely  for online learning. She said she was like a teacher unprepared in a single-student class. I told her, in time, they would adjust to it. Her problem is, her mother-in-law is not a techie and it might be hard for her to handle Nate’s online classes when Nissa and Obet  report to the office twice a week.

Good thing, Nate was really enthusiastic to learn. Nissa forwarded some photos of the spare room in their house converted to Nate’s study.

Nate’s study corner with his medals from Nursery to Grade One prominently displayed.

Second grade, school year 2020-2021.

Good luck baby. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS.
