They came here yesterday to celebrate New Year with us.

After lunch, Nate said, “can we go out at the garden Nonna?”

I asked him why and he added, “I want to pick kalamansi”. That’s Philippine lime.

I told him they are still so small so I showed our two jackfruits.

Can we play instead?” . Then he began making faces and his signature sign which is thumbs up. He has grown so tall and a little more chubby since the last time they stayed here March last year. I took some photos of course..

It is always a thrill having Nate around. When will we see each other again?

Yes, it was his 9th birthday yesterday but they celebrated early last Sunday because of his online classes. We had a video chat for a while yesterday then I sent him an audio greeting.

Here are some of his birthday photos:

Did you notice how he has grown? Look at those long legs.
Goofing around again. He is just a happy boy.
Look at how he acts around his dad.
I gave him a set of Dinosaur toys together with a book on Dinosaurs. Nissa says he loves them.

Time flies! Was it only yeterday that I made my first letter to you!

Again, HAPPY BIRTHDAY NATE πŸ™‚β˜ΊπŸ˜šπŸ˜‰β€πŸ§‘πŸ’šπŸ’›πŸ¦•πŸ¦–πŸ¦•πŸ‘πŸ¨πŸŽ‚

So this was Nate’s birthday gift to Nissa, an art project which he did yesterday. I love it.

We could create an artist yet in him.

I took a lot of pictures of Nate when he and Obet were here last March while Nissa was in the hospital.

Back in the last week of March, my son-in-law Obet and Nate stayed with us for four days while Nissa was in the hospital, she was found positive of Covid and was confined for a week.

I took advantage of the days he was here, taking photos, watching him attend his online class, singing and whistling and playing with his toys.

Kids and students here are still in the online mode in their schooling.

So far Nate has done well for the last two quarters. They don’t have ranking in honors though this school year. I am sharing his grades here.

Just to summarize because the online photo is so small:

I had a good chat with NissaΒ  last night and she told me about Nate’s progress in school. Nate loves his online classes but Nissa is having a hard time workingΒ  from home and at the same time supervising Nate in his schooling. “That’s is why I never dreamed of being a school teacher”, I told Nissa even if Dad persuaded mo to take up Education when I was in college.

They have this subject where they learned to make a simple book mostly drawings of the things they want to put on paper. Nate got so absorbed in it that he made several instead of just one to submit in school.

Nissa actually took a video on how it’s done, unfortunately I could not seem to follow it. I must admit I am not good in following instructions like that. You have to fold the paper so many times andΒ  cut it in the middle then fold it again so it would create pages. Here are the examples Nissa sent me on what Nate did this week.

Children could really be so creative. I wanted to see the other figures that he made especially the flowers and cars. Oh, they still wear uniform shirts even at home with their school logo. Nissa told me they have different colors of shirts every day.

Time flies….really so fast!

Amidst this deadly pandemic, weΒ  still strive toΒ  have a normal life and one of it is enrolling our precious boy in second grade. They started their online class yesterday and Nissa told me it was a hard change from the face-to-face interaction done in school. All modules were uploaded online but a kid of seven would hardly know what to do without a mother’s supervision even if he can easily navigate his tab. Nissa bought him one a few weeks ago purelyΒ  for online learning. She said she was like a teacher unprepared in a single-student class. I told her, in time, they would adjust to it. Her problem is, her mother-in-law is not a techie and it might be hard for her to handle Nate’s online classes when Nissa and ObetΒ  report to the office twice a week.

Good thing, Nate was really enthusiastic to learn. Nissa forwarded some photos of the spare room in their house converted to Nate’s study.

Nate’s study corner with his medals from Nursery to Grade One prominently displayed.

Second grade, school year 2020-2021.

Good luck baby. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS.

Nissa sent me this photo yesterday. It’s Nate’s latest achievements in Grade 1. By August 24 if schools push through, he’ll be in Grade 2.

And she accompanied it with these inspiring words.

Nate, ever since you started schooling, you’ve never failed to make us proud of your scholastic achievements. You growing up to be a sweet, loving, brave and generous kid means everything. Your medals and awards are just icing on the cake. We hope you know how very happy you make us. We love you, dear Nate.Β CongratulationsΒ on a job well done!

1st grade done, next.
